Excavators are in general use in the construction industry and are also found in many other industries including utilities, mining, quarrying, river authorities and inland waterway management. Excavators have a wide variety of uses including trenching, ditching, bank battering, bulk excavation, material handling and demolition. Excavators are powerful machines and an accident involving an excavator can cause severe or fatal injury.

“Excavator Safety –the Essential Guide”, this DVD/USB video addresses the essential aspects of working safely with all types and sizes of excavators. The programme demonstrates pre-start checks and basic maintenance, basic trenching, ascending and descending gradients, safe tipper loading and provides an overview of the safe operation of quick-hitch attachments.

This programme is aimed at contractors, owners and operators of excavators. Employers, managers, supervisors and others concerned with planning, organising and supervising work using excavators will also find this programme useful.

This new programme is delivered on DVD/USB and is provided with a screen menu giving the user access to eight essential but separate sections covering a range of safe working practices to be observed when working with excavators. There is also a bonus track on the DVD/USB containing an introduction and overview of the hydraulic excavator.

A ‘Play All’ function allows the user to view all sections sequentially with a duration of approximately 32 minutes.

Sections include:

 Pre-Shift Checks & Preventive Maintenance

 Safe Basic Digging Techniques

 Safe Use of Quick-Hitches

 Safe Tipper Loading

 General Excavator Safety

 Parking & Shutdown

 Excavator Transportation

 Summary & Closing

 Bonus Track -Overview of the Excavator

The guidance given is consistent with the general operator training requirements of the NPORS (National Plant Operators Registration Scheme)in the UK.

Excavator Safety –The Essential Guide” is the must have addition to any professional safety training library.
