ABTAC now offer Qualitative (QLT) face fit testing.
Tight fitting Respiratory Protection Equipment (RPE) needs to fit the wearers face to be effective. As everyone’s faces are different (and change over time) it is unlikely that one single type or size of RPE will protect all wearers. Therefore fit testing is required to ensure that the supplied RPE is suitable and effective for the wearer.
What ABTAC offer- Qualitative (QLT) testing
ABTAC offer qualitative (QLT) testing (also referred to as the taste test), which is suitable for wearers of half face masks and disposable face masks. We use market leading 3M face fit testing kit.
The process
The Qualitative test can take up to 25 minutes per wearer.
What is the outcome of the test?
After the test has taken place the RPE will receive either a pass or a fail.
If the RPE has been deemed to have failed, alternative RPE will need to be tested.

- Sensitivity test- to determine the participants sensitivity to the solution
- Fit test- which involves: the user wearing their individual RPE, then various simple exercises are undertaken to test the seal of the RPE against the wearers face (i.e. moving head up and down, side to side).
- Following the exercises if the wearer doesn't test any of the solution, the RPE is deemed to be fitting properly.

After the test has taken place the RPE will receive either a pass or a fail.
If the RPE has been deemed to have failed, alternative RPE will need to be tested.
